On Saturday, October 11, Metzler Forest Products LLC hosted the final Mifflin County Woodland Association program of 2008. There were over 40 people who attended this safety demonstration.
Jerry Himes Jr., Forester for Metzler Forest Products LLC, began the meeting with a chainsaw cleaning demonstration. Jerry explained how to clean and maintain a chainsaw and the safety procedures that go along with chainsaw maintenance.
Following this demonstration there was a short break for coffee and doughnuts. Following the coffee break, The group moved outside to watch Jerry demonstrate how to safely cut down a tree. Jerry explained to the group the proper steps that are needed in cutting down a tree. Jerry gave many helpful tips and also answered many questions regarding safety in the woods.
After the cutting demonstration, Max Peachey, Grinding Supervisor for Metzler Forest Products LLC, led the group on a tour of the Metzler Facilities.

Landscaper Tour 2008
On September 15, Metzler Forest Products LLC hosted a landscaper tour of the facilities. The tour started with a hearty breakfast. After breakfast, Rob Renno showed the landscapers a few test plots that showed the difference between bio mass and mushroom compost. The tests plots are composed of two 10’x10’ grass areas. One section of grass was lightly covered with mushroom compost, and the other section of grass was covered with bio mass. Each section was treated the same. The difference between the untreated grass and the treated grass was noticeable within the first week.
Following the bio mass and mushroom compost demonstration, Ryan Zendt explained the various services that can be done with the new Metzler Forest Products LLC blower truck. This was followed by a demonstration that showed how the blower truck works. To show this process, Chris Groff demonstrated how he applies a thin layer of mulch to landscaped areas.

Max Peachey then showed the landscapers the various mulch products that Metzler Forest Products LLC has to offer. He explained the color enhancement process and how the raw product is converted into a finished product that is ready for the customer to purchase.
